Brian Boitano

Figure Skater

Profile
(October 22, 1963)
Birth name is Brian Anthony Boitano
Born in Mountain View, California

Four-time US National Champion (1985, 86, 87, 88)
Two time world champion (1986, 1988)
Six time World Professional Champion (1988, 89, 90, 91, 92, 94)
Olympic gold medalist, men’s skating 1988
Reigning US gold medalist in Olympic men’s figure skating

Why he might be annoying
Since turning professional, he has produced several cheesy made for television ice specials.
He has an effeminate voice.
He has attempted to camoflage his baldness by dyeing his hair blond.
He had a mullet when he skated at the Winter Olympics in 1988.
He reinstated as an amateur in 1993 so he could compete in the Winter Olympics in Lillehamer in 1994. Seconds into his short program he fell on his triple Axel jump, destroying any chances he had for a medal.
He was known for wearing pirate shirts and tights (eek).

Why he might not be annoying
He did not cave in to the media pressure of the 'Battle of the Brians' (the other Brian being Brian Orser of Canada) at the Winter Olympics in Calgary; he skated his ass off and was magnificent.
He won an Emmy Award for his portrayal of Don Jose in 'Carmen On Ice.'
To date, he is the only male figure skater to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated Magazine.
He is always pleasant and gracious to fans and reporters.
He and former rival Brian Orser are actually good friends.
He was parodied in the 1999 film ‘South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.’ The film’s song and musical number ‘What Would Brian Boitano Do?’ has assured his coolness for years to come.

This is full of mistakes.

quote:

(October 22, 1963)

October 22, 1963 to what?  Put a hyphen right after 1963.

quote:

Full name is Brian Anthony Boitano

Please use "Birth name is" instead of "Full name is"

quote:

He did not cave in to the media pressure of the “Battle of the Brians” (the other Brian being Brian Orser of Canada) at the Winter Olympics in Calgary; he skated his ass off and was magnificent.
Won an Emmy Award for his portrayal of Don Jose in "Carmen On Ice."

Never use double quotes (").  Use ' instead.

Is always pleasant and gracious to fans and reporters.
Is actually good friends with former rival Brian Orser.

These are all awkward sentences.  For example, instead of "Is always pleasant and gracious to fans and reporters," it should be "He is always pleasant and gracious to fans and reporters."

quote:

He was parodied in the 1999 film ‘South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut’.

Period should go inside quotes.

quote:

The film’s song and musical number ‘What Would Brian Boitano Do?’ has assured his coolness for years to come.

This line is way too speculative.  I think it should be removed.

Um, to nothing.  He's still alive and I've seen quite a few resumes like this.

quote:

Full name is Brian Anthony Boitano

Please use "Birth name is" instead of "Full name is"

Done.  Thank you.

These were incomplete sentences.  Thank you.

I don't think so.

I have seen quite a few speculative lines in other resumes.  I think it should stay.

But thanks for your feedback.  I appreciate it.

HOW TO WRITE A RESUME

Punctuation always goes inside the quote.

British and commonwealth style allows some variation on this question, but Bruce is right - in the U.S. the period goes inside the quote.

Yeah, I think this line is fine, ratty.  It's not that outrageous a statement.  (And it is a very memorable song.)
