Jacob-He looked like he was wearing a tablecloth first of all. 1 point off for the outfit alone! The performance was okay, but there was a strong finish. 7/10

Lauren-That was a super weak performance. I just felt it was so sleepy. Why were the judges complemeting the fact that her voice cracked? 6/10

Scotty-That was beautiful. His best songf to date! 10/10

James-That was awesome! I really liked seeing his softer side. 10/10

Casey-He had good moments, but there is still too much screaming. 7/10

Haley-Amazing! That was a great song choice for her. She made it sound so modern. 9/10

1.    Scotty
2.    James
3.    Haley
4.    Casey
5.    Lauren

‘Idol’ Finalist Escapes Burning Car

A finalist from the ninth season of “American Idol” had to act fast when her car burst into flames while she was on her way home from a rehearsal in Florida.

Paige Miles, who placed 11th in the reality TV competition, was forced to climb through the window of an SUV to escape the sudden blaze. TMZ reports that she managed to get to out of the scary situation with no bodily harm other than a spike in blood pressure. Miles explained the terrifying ordeal on her Facebook page along with photos of the charred vehicle remains:

"The electric shut down, the car doors wouldn't open, I jumped out my window and watched my mother's Envoy blaze."

Since Miles’ “Idol” elimination on March 24, 2010, she appeared on several late night talk shows, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “Wendy Williams.”

RE: Jack Magic's Idol Discussion 2011/05/05 02:16:03 (permalink)
Thoughts on Contemporary/Classic week...

James (Closer To The Edge & Without You) - I liked the song selection of 'Closer To The Edge,' only because 30 Seconds To Mars is a favorite band of one of my most favorite people in the world. A decent performance, but, not his stongest. Score: 8/10. 'Without You' was probably his worst performance of the entire competition. I understood his emotions, but, he sounded flat in his lower register, and, the lyrics weren't delivered very cohesively. Score: 7/10. Overall score: 15/20

Jacob (No Air & Love Hurts) - I agreed with the judges, he shouldn't have selected a duet and tried to sing both parts again (it worked once, twice was pushing it). I didn't like his weird dance moves either. Score: 7/10. As the competition has gone on, I've come not to like his voice when he's singing falsetto, or when it's at its deepest. Both were on display during 'Love Hurts,' so, I didn't think it was very strong. Score: 6.5/10. Overall Score: 13.5/20

Lauren (Flat On The Floor & Unchained Melody) - I loved the 'Flat On The Floor' performance. It was energetic, youthful and funky. She had a lot of confidence when singing it, too. Score: 9.5/10. For 'Unchained Melody,' I enjoyed the way she started out singing the song ballad-style, but, she did some weird runs at the end and didn't hold notes as long as they're held in the Righteous Brothers' popular version of the song. Score: 8/10. Overall score: 17.5/20

Scotty (Gone & Always On My Mind) - I liked see more of his personality during the song 'Gone,' but, I didn't really care for the song itself. Score: 8/10. I found the 'Always On My Mind' performance quite dull. I know there are probably thousands of teenage girls who are in love with him and love his facial expressions when he looks into the camera and sings out of the side of his mouth. These 'charms' have no influence on me. Score: 6.5/10. Overall score: 14.5/20

Haley (You And I & House Of The Rising Sun) - 'You And I' was entertaining, even if the judges were a little hard on her. I agreed it was an awkward song choice, but, she had fun with it. Score: 8/10. She has such a unique voice and it was on full display during 'House Of The Rising Sun.' I don't know if it was a standing ovation worthy performance, but, it was the best of the night. Score: 9.5/10. Score: 17.5/20

Rankings:
1) Haley
2) Lauren
3) James
4) Scotty
5) Jacob

Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.

The first set of performances were awful! Overall I though the night was pretty weak in general.

James-His first performance was mediocre. Not bad, just not his best. 3/5 and I agree the second was awful. 2/5
5/10

Jacob-The first performance was so awkward and painful. I was annoyed by his reaction to the judges critique as well. 1/5. His second performance was okay but it just didn’t stand out a whole lot. 3/5
4/10

Lauren-I enjoyed both performances. The first was good 4/5. And the second was also good even though it did not compare to the original and some notes were weak. 3/5
7/10

Scotty-The first performance was forgettable I thought. 3/10 I also thought the second on was as well. 3/5
6/10

Haley-The first performance was a poor choice of song overall. 2/10 The second performance defiantly made up for it though! 5/5
7/10

Ranking:
1.       Lauren
2.       Haley
3.       Scotty
4.       James
5.       Jacob

I have to say this..this was the most irritating results show I have ever seen! I was annoyed by the results show for several reasons tonight. First that group performance of “Happy Together” was one of the worst I’ve ever seen on Idol. All the contestants sounded horrid! Second the whole thing with Gordon Ramsay, was forced, irritating, not entertaining, and a complete waste of time. Third I was annoyed by the dumb comments the contestants made during the montage of them picking a song, and trying on Jacob’s fugly purple jacket. Lastly Jacob displaye some more on the arrogant and conceided attitude when he left, by talking about how “American feel in love with me.” The results shows are too long anyway, and Jennifer is starting to make them all about her latest music videos. It’s just longer so the producers can fit in more commercials. GOD I’m so annoyed right now!

That's exactly why I don't bother watching the results shows! With the exception of the season finales, I haven't watched a results show since the week Sanjaya was eliminated. Thanks to the time difference, I go online and find out who was eliminated before the show even starts airing in Denver.

Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.

Took them long enough to get rid of Jacob. The guy just can't sing all that well, IMO.

I don't get the appeal behind Scotty McCreery, though. The show is called American Idol, not Country Idol! And if girls actually think he looks "hot", then I should have a bunch of girls surrounding me as well

If anyone really deserves the win, it should be James. And I say this from the standpoint of someone who has Asperger's like he does - We could use more autism awareness and to have someone with Asperger's have their moment in the spotlight for once.

WTF is this supposed to mean?

FYI: COUNTRY singer Carrie Underwood is THE most comercially successful winner 'AI' has ever produced.

You don't like country music, fine, but your narrow-minded, asswipe opinion is without any merit.

In general I thought the second round was better than the first round.
James:
1.       The chorus was super weak, in a song where the chorus matters the most. Bad song choice that has been done a MILLION TIMES!!!! 2/5
2.       I actually liked his second song a lot. He put his own interesting twist on it. 4/5
Total 6/10

Haley:
1.       I’m unfamiliar with the song, but there was WAY too much screaming. 2/5
2.       That was AWESOME. 5/5
Total 7/10
Scotty:
1.       His voice was pretty and it was nice to see him on the guitar. The lyrcs were about as stereotypical of country music as one could get. 3/5
2.       I did like it, but the googly eyes bugged me. 3/5
Total: 6/10
Lauren:
1.       She sang well and looked good. 3/5
2.       It was a cute and fun performance from her. Sassy however just isn’y her style. 4/5
Total 7/10

Ranking:
1.       Lauren
2.       Haley
3.       James
4.       Scotty

RE: Jack Magic's Idol Discussion 2011/05/11 22:25:07 (permalink)
Thoughts on Inspirational/Leiber & Stoller week...

James (Don't Stop Believin' & Love Potion No. 9) - 'Don't Stop Believin' used to be such a cool song. Then, it was used on 'The Sopranos' and about 10 million other tv shows, and it became overplayed and overrated. So far song choice, not a high mark. He sang it well and had fun with it, though. Score: 8.5/10. As for 'Love Potion No. 9,' that song choice illustrates my point about how the metal community probably wouldn't take him seriously. That being said, he made the song very entertaining, in a hair metal sort of way. Score: 8.5/10. Overall score: 17/20

Haley (Earth Song & I (Who Have Nothing)) - 'Earth Song' was an odd song choice. I thought she sang the verses well, but, the performance hit a lull when the choir was first introduced. I agreed with Randy that, with that song, it only would've worked better if she would've hit some runs toward the end. Score: 7.5/10. 'I (Who Have Nothing)' is a song Jordin Sparks dominated 4 years ago, and I'm not sure if Haley did as good of a job with the song as Sparks. I was glad she listened to Lady GaGa's advice and added some dramatic flare to her performance. Score: 9/10. Overall score: 16.5/20

Scotty (Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning) & Young Blood) - I'm not the most patriotic person who ever lived, so selecting a song about September 11th as 'inspirational' was a tad annoying. I thought he did a nice job singing the song, and clearly, he had a very emotional connection to the lyrics. Score: 8/10. 'Young Blood' was a bit of a ridiculous song choice. He had fun with it, but, that choice of song for him makes absolutely no sense.. Score: 7/10. Overall score: 15/20

Lauren (Anyway & Trouble) - Her performance of 'Anyway' was beautiful. Score: 9/10. On 'Trouble,' the whole thing about her not wanting to say 'I'm evil' was ridiculous to me. When you're performing a song, you're not literally saying you're an evil person. The performance started off strong, but when the arrangement got a little more blue grass and less blue eyed soul, it lost me. Score: 7.5/10. Overall score: 16.5/20

Rankings:
1) James
2) Haley
3) Lauren
4) Scotty
